Waffle Words
More games to play
Waffle Words is a daily free browser word game built around a waffle-shaped grid of letter tiles. Your job is to swap tiles around until every across row and every down column reads as a valid word. You get a fixed number of swaps to solve the whole grid, so every move has to count. It is free to play in the browser with no download, and a new puzzle appears each day, making it a quick habit for word game fans at school, at work, or anywhere.
What is Waffle Words?
Waffle Words is a grid-based word puzzle. The playing field is laid out in a waffle pattern: a 5x5 (or similar) grid where only certain squares are active, forming the interlocking rows and columns of a crossword-like shape. Letters already sit in the squares, but they are in the wrong positions. You swap two tiles at a time, aiming to land every letter in the spot that makes a valid word read across and down. Green tiles are already correct; yellow tiles belong in that row or column but not that exact cell.
How to swap tiles
All interaction is mouse-driven. Click one tile, then click another to swap them. The color feedback updates instantly after each swap.
| Action | How to do it |
|---|---|
| Select a tile | Click it once to highlight it |
| Swap with another | Click the second tile to complete the swap |
| Read the feedback | Green = correct spot, yellow = right word wrong cell, grey = not in any word |
| Undo (if available) | Use the undo button to reverse the last swap |
Swap limit and daily scoring
A perfect solve uses the minimum number of swaps possible. Extra swaps lower your star rating for the day. The puzzle resets every 24 hours, so there is one shared puzzle per day for all players.
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Solved at minimum swaps | Three-star result |
| Solved with a few extra swaps | One or two stars |
| Swap limit reached unsolved | Puzzle ends, result shown |
Tips for solving the grid efficiently
- Fix green tiles first. They are already correct and anchor the words around them.
- Use yellow tiles as clues: they tell you the letter belongs in that row or column, just not that cell.
- Work one word at a time rather than swapping randomly across the whole board.
- Count your swaps. If you are halfway through your limit and still have grey tiles, rethink your approach.
