Word Wipe
More games to play
Word Wipe is a timed word-forming puzzle where you drag through connected letters on a falling-tile grid to clear rows before the clock hits zero. It plays free in any browser, no download needed, and works on mobile and Chromebook, so it runs at school or work wherever browser games are allowed. The pressure of the timer is what separates it from a relaxed word search. You are not hunting for the single longest word; you are racing to clear enough rows to survive the round.
What is Word Wipe?
Word Wipe is a word-forming game built around a grid of letters that falls like tiles. Each round gives you a timer and a row target. You clear rows by spelling valid words (3 letters minimum) through adjacent tiles, which then drop out of the grid, pulling the letters above them down and letting new ones fall in from the top. The loop is fast: find a word, drag, watch the grid shift, find the next word.
How to spell words on the grid
Click or tap the first letter of your word, then drag continuously through adjacent tiles to complete it. You can move in any direction and even change direction mid-word as long as each tile you pass through is adjacent to the last one.
| Action | How to do it |
|---|---|
| Start a word | Click or tap the first letter |
| Extend the word | Drag through adjacent tiles in any direction |
| Change direction mid-word | Curve or angle the drag path as needed |
| Submit the word | Release your click or lift your finger |
| Cancel a word | Drag back over the previous tile to undo letters |
Rows, scoring, and how a round works
The goal each round is to clear a target number of rows before the timer expires. When you clear a valid word, the tiles it used vanish and everything above them falls down. Longer words remove more letters, which means they collapse more rows in one go. Short 3-letter words still count, but they clear less of the grid, so you need more of them to hit the target.
| Word length | Tiles cleared | Row impact |
|---|---|---|
| 3 letters | 3 tiles | Small gap, slow progress |
| 4-5 letters | 4-5 tiles | Moderate row collapse |
| 6+ letters | 6+ tiles | Large collapse, clears rows faster |
Tips for clearing rows faster
- Look for long words first. A 6-letter word does the work of two 3-letter ones.
- Scan vertical and diagonal paths, not just horizontal rows. Players who only read left-to-right miss a lot of options.
- When time is short, switch to quick 3-letter words to chip away the row target rather than hunting for something perfect.
- Watch where gaps open up after a clear. Fresh tiles falling in often create new word opportunities immediately.
- The grid gets denser near the top as new letters pile in, so clearing from the bottom keeps the grid manageable.
Playing on mobile and at school
Word Wipe runs in mobile browsers, so it works on phones and tablets without any app install. The drag controls translate naturally to touch. Because it is a browser game with no download, it also tends to run fine at schools and workplaces that allow standard web browsing. No account or login is required to start playing.
